Chapter 5 - The Family Restoration PlanCaroline Thorne-Wells did not deny the money.

Khloe hated that.
Not because lawyers were involved.
Because lawyers made everything feel official.
Real.
Permanent.
This was no longer a family argument.
It was evidence.
Payments.
Security schedules.
A physical attack.
And a note suggesting planning.
The question was what the letter C meant.
Camille?
Or someone else?
Detective Brooks warned them against assuming anything.
“Initials are not proof.”
Marcus disagreed privately.
“My sister gave Isabella the schedule.”
“That still doesn’t prove she ordered an assault,” Brooks said.
Khloe watched Marcus struggle with that distinction.
He wanted certainty.
But certainty was disappearing.
The next shock came from Isabella’s attorney.
At 6:30 p.m., he released a public statement claiming Isabella was being falsely accused after trying to help an emotionally unstable pregnant woman.
Within minutes, entertainment sites picked it up.
By seven, social media exploded.
Half the internet believed Khloe.
The other half didn’t.
Old videos of Khloe arguing with paparazzi resurfaced.
A photograph of her leaving a restaurant in tears became “evidence” she was unstable.
Anonymous accounts claimed Marcus’s marriage was collapsing.
Then came the photographs.
Isabella and Marcus.
Together.
Hotel lobby.
Restaurant.
Private jet hangar.
Khloe stared at Marcus’s phone.
“When were these taken?”
“Different times.”
“With her?”
“No.”
He enlarged one.
“This was a board dinner. She was seated two tables away.”
Another.
“This was my father’s memorial fundraiser. There were three hundred people there.”
A third showed Isabella entering an elevator beside Marcus.
“That one?”
“New York. Four years ago.”
“Before we were married?”
“Yes.”
Someone had released old photographs without context.
The intention was obvious.
Make Khloe look jealous.
Make the assault look like the climax of a love triangle.
Khloe switched off the phone.
“I’m not fighting strangers online.”
Marcus nodded.
“Good.”
“I’m fighting the person who kicked me.”
That evening, Dr. Foster finally allowed Khloe to walk briefly.
Marcus helped her toward the window.
The baby remained stable.
Each strong heartbeat felt like a victory.
But Khloe noticed a black SUV parked across the street.
Same spot.
Same vehicle.
Two hours later, it was still there.
Marcus’s security team photographed the plate.
Rental.
Paid in cash.
The driver disappeared before police arrived.
Marcus doubled security.
Two guards outside Khloe’s room.
One by the elevator.
Another downstairs.
Khloe hated feeling imprisoned.
But she hated fear more.
At 11:40 p.m., the hospital received a flower delivery.
White lilies.
No sender.
Security intercepted them.
Inside the arrangement was an envelope.
One photograph.
Khloe asleep beside Marcus months earlier.
Taken through the window of their lake house.
Marcus stared at it.
Their bedroom was on the second floor.
Someone would have needed a long-range lens.
On the back were four words.
He always comes back.
Marcus handed it to police.
Detective Brooks arrived personally.
“This changes things.”
“Because she was watching us?” Khloe asked.
“Because stalking creates a pattern.”
Brooks began reviewing every prior contact.
Marcus turned over old messages he had dismissed.
Isabella outside his office.
Isabella at private events.
A photograph of Khloe shopping.
A message referencing their nursery.
Khloe’s blood ran cold.
“She knew about the nursery?”
Marcus nodded miserably.
“She asked why we chose yellow.”
Only seven people had seen the nursery.
Khloe.
Marcus.
Evelyn.
Camille.
Their decorator.
The housekeeper.
And Marcus’s longtime chief of staff, Grant Hollis.
Investigators interviewed everyone.
The decorator had photographs documenting her work.
The housekeeper had no known contact with Isabella.
Grant’s phone records were clean.
Camille refused to speak without counsel.
Then investigators found something in Isabella’s cloud backups.
A photograph.
Taken inside the Thornes’ nursery.
Yellow walls.
White crib.
A small wooden rabbit on a shelf.
The picture had been sent to Isabella from an unknown encrypted number.
Caption:
She thinks this room belongs to her baby.
Khloe stared at it.
Marcus became motionless.
Because the photograph had been taken before the nursery was finished.
On a day Khloe had been away.
Marcus searched his memory.
“Who was in the house?”
“Workers,” Khloe said.
“And Camille.”
He looked at her.
“She stopped by for lunch.”
Police obtained security logs from the estate.
Camille had indeed entered.
But she wasn’t alone.
She had brought a guest.
A woman registered under another name.
The gate camera had captured only part of her face.
Detective Brooks enhanced the still.
Khloe recognized her immediately.
Isabella.
Camille had brought Isabella into their home.
Into their unborn daughter’s room.
Marcus looked as though someone had struck him.
The woman he had grown up protecting had secretly escorted his obsessed ex-girlfriend into his wife’s nursery.
But the worst discovery came after midnight.
Investigators traced the LLC payment linked to hospital technician Aaron Bell.
The money originated from an investment trust.
Not Isabella’s.
Not the Rossi family’s.
The trust belonged to someone named Caroline Thorne-Wells.
Marcus stared at the screen.
Khloe frowned.
“Who is Caroline?”
He looked at her.
“My aunt.”
Evelyn’s older sister.
The woman who had practically raised Camille after Marcus’s father died.
The woman who sat on the board of Thorne Global.
The woman who had openly told Khloe at her wedding:
Women like you don’t survive families like ours.
Marcus had always called it an old woman’s bitterness.
Now, at 12:17 in the morning, Detective Brooks placed another document on the table.
Caroline Thorne-Wells had transferred $250,000 into Isabella Rossi’s private account four months earlier.

The memo line contained only two words:
Family restoration.
