Chapter 3: The Trap is Sprung

The night of the grand winter wedding arrived. The Cathedral of the Holy Trinity was adorned with thousands of white roses, looking like a flawless, frozen paradise. The wealthiest families in the country filled the pews, eager to witness the union of Julian Vance and Cassandra Sterling.

Behind the scenes, Victoria Vance was ecstatic. She stood in the bride's preparation room, adjusting Cassandra’s heavy diamond necklace. "Tonight, my dear, we secure our kingdom. The lawyers have finalized the post-nuptial agreement. Once Julian signs it tonight, his entire voting power transfers to us in the event of his incapacitation."

Cassandra smirkingly admired herself in the mirror. "He looks so drained today, Victoria. I don't think his heart will last through the honeymoon."

Meanwhile, in the groom's suite, Julian sat quietly, fastening his cufflinks. His face was a stoic mask, but his mind was racing. He had spent the last forty-eight hours working secretly with Clara and the federal authorities, coordinating a massive, highly synchronized trap. Clara had provided the FBI with the encrypted audio files and the corporate embezzlement logs, but they needed one final piece of undeniable, real-time evidence to ensure Victoria and Cassandra would never see the light of day again.

The organ music began to swell, echoing through the massive vaulted ceilings of the cathedral. Julian walked down the aisle, standing at the altar under the watchful, predatory eyes of Victoria, who sat in the front row, wearing a triumphant smile.

Cassandra appeared at the back of the church, looking radiant in a custom designer gown. As she walked down the aisle toward him, Julian kept his eyes locked on her, playing the part of the compliant, broken groom perfectly.

When Cassandra reached the altar, the priest began the traditional ceremony. The crowd listened intently as the vows were read. Finally, the priest turned to Julian. "Do you, Julian Vance, take this woman to be your lawfully wedded wife?"

Julian paused. The silence stretched for a beat too long. Cassandra’s smile faltered slightly, and Victoria leaned forward in her pew, her brow furrowing with sudden suspicion.

Julian looked directly at Cassandra, his voice clear, powerful, and utterly devoid of fear. "I do not."

A collective gasp rippled through the hundreds of wedding guests. Cassandra turned pale. "Julian, what are you doing? Is this a joke?"

"The only joke is this wedding," Julian declared, stepping back from the altar. He gestured toward the massive projector screen that had been set up to display childhood photos of the couple.

Suddenly, the screen flickered to life. But it didn't show photos. Instead, it played the crystal-clear security footage from the security office, followed by the booming, unedited audio recording of Victoria and Cassandra discussing the poisoning of Arthur Vance and their plans to eliminate Julian.

"Julian will suffer the same 'sudden heart failure' his father did, and the Vance empire will finally be ours..." Victoria’s voice blasted through the cathedral’s state-of-the-art sound system, echoing off the stained-glass windows.

Panic erupted. Guests stood up in horror. Victoria scrambled to her feet, screaming at her personal security team, "Turn it off! Cut the power! This is a malicious lie!"

But her security team didn't move. They slowly stepped aside, revealing a dozen federal agents entering through the heavy wooden doors of the cathedral, weapons drawn.
